What a ROCKing Field Trip !!

Upper Elementary students traveled to Vulcan Materials' Dolcito Quarry for a field trip this Friday, January 23rd. The field trip gave the students a chance to have a hands-on experience with fossils, rocks and other earth materials. The trip coin­cided with our study of earth materials and rock cycle.

In the Dolcito classroom, students learned some key safety measures and how important it is to follow these measures when working in the mines. The students got to experience “rock crushing” in a “crusher”.  But the most exciting part was when we got to weigh our school bus with and without passengers on it.

Weekly Reading Log

 

We all know reading is important but sometimes it can be challenging to keep track of your child’s daily reading.  In order to continue to encourage our students to read every night, a mandatory READING LOG will now be included with weekly homework packet. 

 

Each student is required to read minimum of 30 minutes a night, record their reading time and get parent’s initials on it on a weekly basis.  The log will be sent home every Friday with homework packet, and will be due the next Friday along with that week’s homework packet. 
Attached is a copy of the reading log.

Welcome 2015

Students and teachers came back to school this morning with high spirits and positive energy.  (They don't like to confess it but) students this morning were ready to get back to routine and work on their week's work plan.  Here is a sneak peak at our uninterrupted morning work cycle:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To help our children start fresh in the year 2015, we encourage parents to check homework folders regularly and empty out graded work and announcements.  This will help them start the new year in a more organized manner.
